History: Roman Villa Trip

Image
What a fantastic day we have had at Brading Roman Villa. We learned all about the history of the building, as well as trying our hand at mosaic making, exploring Roman artefacts and playing Roman games. It was a brilliant day and the children were a real credit to the school. Well done everyone!

This week, Year 4 started a new learning journey all about the Ancient Roman Empire and its impact on 'Britannia'. We quickly put our knowledge of European Geography to the test by identifying where the Romans came from and which modern day countries were part of the Roman Empire. It was great to see that Year 4 were full of questions, curiosity and excitement for this new topic!

Ancient Egyptian Workshop

Today, Year 4 were treating to a fantastic hands-on Egyptian workshop by Estelle from the IOW Heritage Service. Estelle told us all about a Victorian collector called Sir Henry Seton-Karr and showed us some of his amazing collection of Egyptian artefacts. We learned all about mummification and even took part in a mummification ceremony, where we explored some of the artefacts in more detail. We then got to look at the artefacts up close, even getting to hold them in our hands. It was amazing to think that some of the things we were holding were over 3000 years old!
