How have animals and plants adapted to live in a desert?

This week, the children were really engaged in their learning as they all had stories to discuss about plants and animals that live in a desert. Some children have even been on a camel and lots of children have cactii at home.

Do you know that camels have 2 sets of eyelashes and they can close their nostrils? They also have flat wide feet to help them walk over the sand. Cactii have long roots which are found just under the ground so they can soak up as much water as possible when it rains. They also have big stems to make food and store water in. At the end of the lesson children were given a chance to touch a cactus .
