Image
This week the children completed an assessment to showcase their learning over the past six weeks.  First, they recapped their knowledge and played ‘Where in the World’.  Following this the children produced some amazing posters about National Parks. Have a look at the amazing work they have produced.

Author Visit - Peter J Murray

Image
Today we were really lucky that Peter J Murray visited us. He talked us all about his 20 anniversary of his original series of ‘Mokee Joe’. He talked us through how and why he became an author; it was surprising that he was actually a maths teacher before he was a author.  He then spoke in depth about the characters of Mokee Joe and how he developed them all. The children were so engaged and loved hearing Peter retell some of the Mokee Joe story.

What is the climate like in the Lake District?

This week, the children recapped their understanding of weather and climate. Weather is what we get everyday and it can change many times during that day. Whereas, climate is measured over a long period of time. It is also the weather you would expect to find in a certain location. Example: you would expect the climate near the Equator to be hot.  The children then used this knowledge to help them understand how the climate in the Lake District is milder in the winter and cooler in the summer because of the warm air brought in by the Gulf Stream. This climate is not great for growing crops so they use the land to breed sheep. They also utilise the wind and rivers to make electricity.

WB: 2/12/24 English- Editing and Improving

Image
This week, Year 4 have been looking at editing their own work. After writing some brilliant versions of Podkin, it was time to look at how we can change our work for the better. The children used the new level system of editing to get the best out of their work. We had level 1, which was basic correcting and proofreading, all the way to level 3 that involved replacing and removing sentences and words.  Take a look!
